New York Fashion Week's September 2026 season runs September 10–15, opening with Henry Zankov's debut at Diane von Furstenberg and closing with Thom Browne, across roughly 70 official shows. Buried inside that calendar, and rarely compiled in one place, is a roster of Black designers whose work will define what SS27 actually looks like on real bodies, in real communities — not just on a runway.
This season's list includes Sergio Hudson, LaQuan Smith, Diotima (Rachel Scott), Off-White under creative director Ib Kamara, Advisry, House of Aama, L'Enchanteur, Frederick Anderson, Theophilio, and Agbobly. Each brings a distinct point of view: Off-White continues to carry forward the vision Virgil Abloh built, now under Kamara's direction; House of Aama's mother-daughter design partnership threads ancestral storytelling into every collection; L'Enchanteur draws on diasporic spirituality as a design language, not a marketing angle.
One storyline worth watching closely: Rachel Scott is carrying a dual workload this season, showing both her own label Diotima and her sophomore collection as creative director at Proenza Schouler — a rare dual mandate that says as much about where the industry is placing trust as it does about her range as a designer.
