Content
Five Pillars. One Lens.
All of it is public health.
Everything MB publishes lives inside five pillars — Heart, Hustle, Knowledge, Culture, and Health. They are how we organize the work. Health Equity Journalism is the lens we operate all of it through.
Health isn't a topic over in one corner. It runs through politics, money, culture, and daily life — so we cover all of it as what it already is: public health. Each pillar holds its own segments — recurring series you can follow — and our investigations cut across all five.
The System
How We Publish
Each pillar holds its own segments — recurring series you can follow. When we publish, a piece files under its pillar and its segment, so you can read by the subject you care about or follow a single series over time. Our MB Original Content series and investigations cut across all five pillars.
The Melanin Memo publishes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. A new investigation runs every Friday. Every piece is fact-checked, solutions-first, and ends with something you can use.
We treat information as care. Because care doesn't stop in the OR.
It starts long before the operating room — with what you were told, what you weren't, and who made sure you knew. Closing that gap is the work.
Heart
“Where we feel it.”
Mental health, maternal health, reproductive justice, family systems, and the emotional architecture of survival. The part of health that lives in the body and the spirit — and the part the data can't hold on its own.

“Made by us. For us.”
